High-Performance I/O is currently a major problem in clusters, grids, and HPC centres due
to several problems. However, it has become a strategic part of the computer architecture
to achieve global computing performance, as the speed of processors and networks is
increasing every day.
In this workshop we will address theoretical and practical issues related to new solutions
trying to solve the I/O problem in large scale high-performance I/O systems, and
also those topics related to data intensive computing and data intensive applications. The
goal is to identify, discuss, and share the barriers and workarounds that have been
discovered.
HIPERIO was already organized in 2006, when it attracted high interest from the
community. It was a half-a-day workshop. This year we plan to extend it to a full-day
workshop because in 2006, due to the restriction on the agenda for the workshop, some
good papers were discarded.
